Family Time Audit

Doing a Time Audit for Your Family

Have you ever stopped to really look at how your family spends their time each week? It’s so easy to fill our schedules with good things—sports, lessons, church events, school activities—but if we’re not careful, we can lose sight of what’s most important: connection.

One of the most practical tools I encourage parents to do is a family time audit. It’s simple, but powerful. Sit down together and take a look at how you’re actually spending your days and weeks. Write out your daily routines, commitments, and where most of your energy is going. You might be surprised at how much of your time is filled with things that don’t necessarily align with your family’s priorities.

A time audit isn’t about guilt—it’s about awareness. When you can see your time clearly, you can start to ask better questions:

  • Are we spending enough time together as a family?

  • Do our kids feel connected to us during the week, or are we always rushing?

  • Are there activities that could be simplified, paused, or removed altogether?

This small exercise can help you make intentional adjustments that bring peace back into your home. When your schedule reflects your values, your family feels it. You begin to move from busyness to purpose, and from survival to connection.
